Dark Waters is a docu-drama starring Mark Ruffalo, Anne Hathaway, and Tim Robbins. Inspired by a terrifying true story, a corporate attorney (Mark Ruffalo) uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths to one of the world’s largest corporations.
Ruffalo drives the story and it is refreshing to see him in a more down to earth role. The narrative style plays with your emotions as DuPont use their size, money, and government connections to try and shut down Rob Bilott’s (Ruffalo) case at every opportunity.
But Bilott’s dogged determination to see the truth come to light forces him to find ways around every roadblock DuPont throw in his way.
Director Todd Haynes manages to take what could be a boring courtroom/boardroom documentary and turns it into an engaging drama by introducing us to enough characters to keep the story feeling personal.
