Big Boys Toys – Movie Car Feature

An annual highlight of Big Boys Toys is the ‘movie car’ feature presented by the team at Hero Car Hire. This year’s movie car replica is the General Lee – the Dodge Charger driven by Duke cousin’s Bo and Luke in The Dukes of Hazzard.

The General Lee was famous for its chases, stunts and jumps in every episode, with 256 General Lee’s used to film the series. It was also famous for having the doors welded shut, leaving the Dukes to climb in and out the windows.

During the filming of ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ series from 1979 to 1985, Dodge Chargers from the model year 1968 & 1969 were used. When filming the jumps, sandbags of concrete ballast was placed in the car boot to prevent the car from nosing over. All cars used in large jumps were immediately retired due to structural damage. Stunt drivers in the series said that they “enjoying the flights, but hating the landings”.

The General Lee movie car feature at Big Boys Toys has a moonshine still, classic Dukes of Hazzard posters, and plenty of footage from the iconic 1980s series.
